Wandering Spirits: Agave Spirits

Join us for an incredibly special episode of Wandering Spirits as we take a deep dive into the world of the world’s tastiest monocot…agave. Agave, a native to the American tropics, is widely cultivated and used in the production of a wide variety of spirits, almost exclusively produced in Mexico, most of which can be classified in the mezcal family. Most famous of these spirits is, of course, tequila; however, there are many other forms of mezcal, based upon the utilization of other, lesser-known varietals of agave.

Laura Green, a Chicago-based Spirits Specialist with the Winebow Group, will be on hand to lead us through an impressively diverse range of agave spirits; from the various ages and production methods of tequila to a wide array of mezcals. Laura has traveled extensively through the various regions of Mexico where agave spirits are produced and has a personal relationship with many of the growers and producers.

If you have even the slightest notion of the amount of freak-out level response that this family of Mexican spirits has upon Chef Nathan Berg and The Lakely’s amazing bar staff, then you’ll know that calling us “excited” for this event is the very definition of understatement. Class begins at 6:00pm and lasts approximately 1.5 hours.
