With spring finally in full force and summer just up the road, we’ve decided that the time is right for doing a study/sampling of saisons. A style of beer which originated in southern Belgium, saisons were brewed at farmhouses throughout the region in the wintertime to help quench the palettes of farm workers throughout the summer months. They were historically a low-ABV ale and, despite all of them being generally lighter in body/color, each farm’s brew was quite unique. Today, the style remains on the lighter side but with numerous variations on color/style and it is brewed all over the world. More than anything, saison/farmhouse ales tend to be a perfect beer to showcase the complex beauty of yeast.

For this round of The ABV Club, Chef Nathan Berg will lead a tasting of several different varieties of saison, mostly from the Midwest but with some stellar examples from outside of our backyard peppered in as well. He’ll also discuss a bit more about the history and characteristics of this gem of a beer style. So get ready to join us and sample the beer style that truly represents summer!

Tickets are $15 in advance/$20 at the door
